Maummar of the Meshuesh

Shayka al Muttawwia
Captain of Mercenaries

Maummar is the eldest son of a Meshuesh merchant of Sais.
Though well educated by his father and persuaded towards a career in trade, Maummar was more interested in the life of a soldier. Maummar saw great opportunities for a mercenary captain. He used his fathers moderate influence and finances to put together his first company.

Maummar persuaded friends, retainers and associates to join his company as well as hiring a cadre of veterans. In this way he enjoys the loyalty of friends and the experience of veterans. Maummar created a unit loyal and experienced enough to handle any opposition.

There are some 100 men in the company. They are armed with javelins, spears, and khopesh swords. Each man carries a shield and some have padded armour in the Meshuesh style.
They are extensively trained as skirmishers and scouts and have had previous experience as marines and trackers.

Intensive training is conducted in personal fitness, weapons handling, drills and tactics, fieldcraft and personal hygiene. All personnel train together in order to develop a strong bond between officers and men.

Maummar himself wears clothes that are invariably of good quality but plain, eschewing the gaudy silks of other mercenaries. He prefers tunics of yellow or ochre and encorages his men to wear yellow tunics as well.

Maummar invariably wears a shirt of chain mail under his tunic. He wears a 'turban helmet' with its pointed and fluted shape, when on campaign. He also carries a small shield.

Maummar carries the spear and javelins characteristic of his unit and presently favours a tabarzin or 'saddle axe' as his secondary weapon.

Maummar's company flies a plain yellow banner.

The company was until recently in the service of the Gyptian governors of the Red Coast in Punt.
